The four occasions where it is genuinely the best answer
Milestone birthdays. The archive is decades deep and nobody has ever put it in order. Thirty years of photographs exist; thirty years of photographs sequenced does not.
Anniversaries. The only occasion where the shared archive is the subject by definition. A first anniversary is traditionally paper, which makes this almost too neat.
Farewells after years. The material is there, the group is there to contribute, and the alternative — a card everyone signs — is genuinely worse at the same effort.
Raksha Bandhan. The deepest archive in most people’s lives and the least used. A sibling relationship has twenty years of photographs and almost none of them printed.

The occasions where it is the wrong call
Wide-circle festival gifting. Diwali across twenty households, an office floor, a building. Sweets scale; keepsakes do not, because the personal content is wasted on someone who was not in the photographs.
A new baby. The instinct is strong and the timing is wrong. There is a week of archive. Wait a year and make something with a year in it.
Bereavement, immediately. A memorial book is a genuinely good gift and a terrible one in the first fortnight. Months later, when people have stopped calling, is when it lands.
Housewarming. They want things for the house. A book is not a thing for the house.
Anything three days away. Ours take 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep because a person designs it and you approve a proof first. Three days is a gift card, and we say so on WhatsApp rather than take the order.
Ordering deadlines, honestly
Two weeks is comfortable. One week is possible. The variance comes from two places, and one of them is yours.
Ours: we dispatch every Monday, so a Friday order catches that week’s dispatch and a Saturday order waits for the next. That single fact is most of the 5-to-14-day spread.
Yours: how fast you send the photographs, and how fast you reply to the proof. A same-day reply to the proof is the biggest single lever in the whole process.
Group occasions are where this category is strongest
Weddings, farewells and office milestones are collective in India in a way they are not in most places, and pooled money produces a much better object than pooled envelopes.
Ten people at ₹110 each reaches an 8-page magazine at ₹499 with room to spare, or ₹130 each reaches a lay-flat album at ₹1,299. The same total split into ten separate small gifts produces ten forgettable things.
