Personalised Wedding Gift Ideas for the Couple in India

Cash is the traditional answer and usually the right one. When an object beats it, what to give if you know them well, and what it costs from ₹270.

At most Indian weddings the envelope is the right call, and choosing an object instead is a decision you should be able to justify. This page is about that decision and what to buy if you make it. The customs themselves — how the shagun is calculated, why the amount ends in a one, and what each region expects — are covered in Indian wedding gift traditions, region by region.

Cash or an object?

Your relationship What lands better
Colleague, plus-one, family friend Cash. Comfortably.
Extended family Cash, in an odd amount
Close friend of one of them An object, or both
Close to both, for years An object, and a good one
A group of their friends Pooled, into one object
Attending from abroad Order inside India, deliver locally

The test: could you write five specific things about the two of them without thinking hard? If not, the envelope is the honest gift, and it will be received warmly.

When an object is genuinely better

When you are close to one of them, not to both families. Cash goes into the family ledger; an object goes to the person. If your relationship is with the friend you shared a flat with for three years, the ledger is the wrong destination.

When you are giving as a group. Eight friends contributing separately produces a figure that vanishes into a total. Pooled into one made object, the same money buys the only thing on the gift table that names them.

When the household already exists. A second marriage, an older couple, or two people who have lived together for years — none of them needs help furnishing a home, which is the logic holding up most of the gift table.

When you cannot attend. A transfer arrives as a line in a ledger. Something with your handwriting in it stands in for you being there.

What to give

Idea Why Ours
The year before the wedding Nobody else has these photographs 24–40pp, ₹699–1,099
A print set for the new home Visible daily, not stored ₹270 for 30
A lay-flat album for their own photos They will have hundreds ₹1,299–2,299
A book from their friend group Collective, one line each 16–24pp, ₹599–699
A diary for the first year The only format they continue ₹699–1,299

About four photographs fill a page. Flat ₹70 delivery to every pin code in India.

The strongest brief, by some distance: the months before the wedding. Everyone has the wedding photographs — a professional made those and they are already an album. Almost nobody has the flat full of boxes, the tasting where the food was bad, the arguing about caterers. That is the book only their friends can give them.

How to brief a group gift

The group wedding gift fails on collection, not on choice. Three things that decide it:

One person decides, everyone else pays. A committee produces the safest possible object. Name a single person and let them choose.

Collect before you brief us, not after. Chasing four people for ₹500 while a deadline runs down is how these arrive late or not at all.

Ask for one line each, not photographs. Everyone has photographs. What nobody has is twenty people writing one specific sentence, and that is what makes the finished thing unrepeatable.

Timing

5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR. We dispatch every Monday, so ordering by a Friday rather than over a weekend can save a full week.

Two practical notes. Deliver to a home address, not the venue — a made-to-order arrival is a range rather than a date, and a parcel reaching a hall during a wedding is a parcel nobody will look after. And if you are ordering from abroad, order inside India rather than shipping: no customs, no duty bill handed to the couple, and far faster.

When to just give the envelope

We sell keepsakes and this remains true more often than not.

When you do not know them well. A personalised object from a distant guest is awkward for everyone.

When the family keeps a register. In households where the contribution is formally recorded, an object sits outside the system and can quietly complicate reciprocity. Ask.

When the wedding is next week. Made-to-order takes 5 to 14 days. Cash is not a compromise here — it is correct.

When you have no photographs of them. No archive, no personalisation.

Frequently asked

What should I gift a couple at their wedding in India? An envelope, unless you are close enough to write five specific things about them without thinking hard. If you are, something built from the months before the wedding is the strongest brief there is.

What is the best group gift for a wedding? One object rather than several, briefed by one person, with a written line from everybody who contributed. The writing is the part that cannot be bought.

How far ahead do I need to order? Two weeks is comfortable. Made-to-order runs 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, and ordering early in the week helps because we dispatch on Mondays.

Can I order from abroad for a wedding in India? Yes, and ordering inside India is the better route — no customs, no duty bill handed to the couple, and a much shorter wait.

Where should the gift be delivered? A home address, not the venue. Made-to-order delivery is a range rather than a fixed date.
