Your parents took every photograph in your childhood and appear in almost none of them. That single fact is the whole opportunity. A book about them — their wedding, their move, the house before it was renovated, who they were before they were your parents — is something nobody has ever made for them and they would never commission for themselves.
The distinction that does the work
Most gifts to parents are about the relationship: you and them, holidays, family occasions. Those are good, and they are also the version they already have.
A book about them is different. Their own early life, in their own order, with the people they knew before you existed. It reframes them from parent back into person, which is the thing that lands.
If you only take one idea from this page: make it about them, not about you and them.
What actually works
| Idea | Why | Ours |
|---|---|---|
| Their early life, restored and sequenced | Nobody has ever made them the subject | 16–32pp, ₹599–899 |
| Their wedding, reprinted properly | Usually one fading album, badly stored | 16–24pp, ₹599–699 |
| The house, before and through | The place all of you were shaped in | 8–16pp, ₹499–599 |
| A grandparent interviewed, then illustrated | Words first, photographs second | 16–32pp, ₹599–899 |
| A 25th or 50th anniversary album | The volume an album is for | ₹1,299–2,299 |
| Prints for the wall, of them | Visible daily, unlike a book | ₹270 for 30 |

Sourcing the photographs is the actual project
This is where these gifts succeed or stall, and it has nothing to do with printing.
Old photographs are printed, scattered, and often held by relatives. An aunt has the wedding album. A cousin has the box from the old house. Nobody has them digitised.
Allow more time for this than for everything else combined. Sourcing routinely takes two to four weeks; the printing takes 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep. Start with the relatives, not with the order.
Photograph the prints properly. In daylight, flat, square on, no flash. A phone camera does this well. A crooked photograph of a photograph taken under a tube light does not.
Ask while you are there. Who is in it, where, what year, what happened after. Those answers become the captions, and captions are what separate a book of old pictures from a record.

The interview version
The strongest brief in this category, and it costs nothing but an afternoon.
Sit with a parent or grandparent and ask them about a period — how they met, the first job, the move, the year things were hard. Record it on a phone. Then find photographs to sit against what they said.
The words come first and the images illustrate them, which is the reverse of every other photo book. It is the one families keep longest, and it captures something that genuinely disappears otherwise.
Timing and cost
5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR, once you have the material. We dispatch every Monday, so ordering by a Friday rather than over a weekend saves a week.
₹270 for 30 prints, ₹499 to ₹1,099 for a magazine, ₹1,299 to ₹2,299 for a lay-flat album. For a 25th or 50th, the album is genuinely the right format — that is the volume it is built for.
Where to go next
This is the overview. Each of these takes one occasion or one project and goes deeper.
Occasions A parent’s retirement · Your mother’s 60th · Your father’s 60th · Thirty years married · An anniversary at the last minute · A new home
Making something from the archive Planning a photo book of their life · Turning old family photos into an album · Interviewing them first
Situations When she says she wants nothing · When you move out · From your first salary · When they live abroad
Beyond your own parents Mother-in-law and father-in-law · Grandparents · Grandparents who cannot use a smartphone
When to give something else
When the photographs genuinely do not exist. Some families have very few, and no format fixes that. An interview printed as text, or thirty prints of what you do have, is honest.
When there is a live family tension. A comprehensive family record can land as a claim rather than a gift if things are strained. Something smaller and more specific leaves room.
When they have told you what they want. They usually have. Buy it.
When the occasion is in a week. Sourcing old photographs alone takes longer. Give a card saying it is coming and make it properly.
Frequently asked
What is a good emotional gift for parents? A book about their own life rather than about your relationship with them — their early years, their wedding, the house. They took every family photograph and appear in almost none.
How do I get old family photographs digitised? Photograph the prints in daylight, flat and square on, with no flash. A phone does this well. Ask relatives early — sourcing usually takes longer than printing.
What should I make for a 25th anniversary? A lay-flat album from ₹1,299. Twenty-five years is the volume an album is actually built for, and a magazine caps at 40 pages.
How long does the whole thing take? Two to four weeks to source photographs from family, then 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep. The sourcing is the long part.
What if the photos are low quality? Old prints photographed carefully reproduce well. Chat-app copies do not — send the best version you can get, and lower-quality images can be placed small rather than full-page.
