Nobody wants a gift to arrive with a number attached to it. The instinct is to worry about what is inside the parcel, and that is only one of three places the price can surface — and in India it is not usually the first one.
The three leaks

What prepaid already settles
The loudest of the three is the first, and it is the one people forget: cash on delivery announces the price out loud, to the recipient, at their own door. A rider reads out an amount and somebody pays it.

The messages go to whoever ordered
The order confirmation and the tracking code go to the email address on the order, which is normally yours. Tracking then needs that code and the last four digits of the phone number on the order, so somebody who merely receives a parcel cannot look up what it cost. How tracking works →
The one to watch is the courier’s own text messages, which go to the contact number on the shipment. If that is the recipient’s number — and for a direct delivery it should be, so they can be reached — they will get delivery updates. Those name a parcel, not a price.
The sentence that covers the parcel
Say it at order time. One line is enough: nothing in the parcel that shows the price, please. It is the same rule as asking for a note with your name on it, and the same reason — once a parcel is packed, neither can be added or removed. Can you gift wrap it? →
Worth asking of any seller, not only us. The honest question is not “do you hide the price” but “what paperwork goes inside the box”, and a seller who cannot answer that quickly is telling you something.
What you cannot hide, and should not try to
The object. A forty-page hardcover album and a pack of thirty prints are visibly different things, and anybody can find a published price list in about eight seconds.

The better version of this worry is usually about proportion rather than secrecy: a gift that reads as expensive can be awkward regardless of whether the figure is visible.
Frequently asked
Will my recipient find out what I spent? Not from the delivery itself, provided the order is prepaid and you have asked for nothing priced to go in the parcel. They can always look the product up.
Does cash on delivery reveal the price? Completely, at the door, in front of whoever answers it. It is the reason a surprise gift and a cash-on-delivery order do not belong together.
Who gets the courier’s messages? Whichever number is on the shipment. Use the recipient’s so they can be reached, and accept that they will see delivery updates.
