Order inside India and have it delivered locally. It is faster, cheaper, and — the part people miss — it does not hand your recipient a customs bill for a present. Shipping a gift from abroad is almost always the worse option, and the reasons are practical rather than sentimental.
The problem with posting it yourself
You buy something where you live, you post it, and one of four things happens.
It takes three to six weeks. International post to India is not quick, and tracking often stops at the border.
It gets held at customs. Gifts above a modest value threshold attract duty. The parcel sits until someone deals with it.
Your recipient pays the duty. This is the genuinely bad outcome. Someone receives a present and is asked for money before they can have it. It converts a gift into an errand.
It arrives damaged, and there is no recourse. Cross-border claims on a personal parcel are not realistically worth pursuing.
None of this is anybody’s fault. It is just what sending a physical object across a border involves.

The last row is worth dwelling on. The same category of gift is generally cheaper bought in India than bought abroad and shipped, before you add any freight at all.
What works well sent from a distance
The constraint when you are far away is that you cannot see it, hand it over, or fix it afterwards. That favours certain gifts.
Anything you can approve remotely. If you can see a proof before it prints, distance stops mattering. This is the whole reason our process is built around a PDF proof on WhatsApp — you are looking at the same file whether you are in Noida or New Jersey.
Things where the value is the content, not the object. A record of a shared history travels well. A fragile decorative object does not.
Things that do not need a size. Clothing sent blind across a distance is a gamble.

The timezone thing nobody mentions
The friction in ordering from abroad is not the shipping. It is that the design conversation happens across a nine-and-a-half-hour gap.
Practically, that means one exchange a day. You send photos overnight our time, we lay it out during our day, you see the proof when you wake up. A build that takes two days of conversation for a customer in Delhi takes four for one in California — not because anything is slower, but because each reply costs a full cycle.

When shipping from abroad is genuinely better
Two cases, and they are real.
When the object itself is the point. Something unavailable in India, something from a place you have been, something with provenance that matters. A duty-free bottle or a local speciality is the gift precisely because of where it came from. Ordering an Indian equivalent defeats it.
When you are travelling anyway. Carrying it in a suitcase removes every problem on this page. If you are visiting in the next month, wait and bring it.
Everything else — the birthday you are missing, the wedding you cannot attend, the parent you want to send something to for no particular reason — is better ordered locally.
