School farewells have constraints that college ones do not, and ignoring them is how the plan collapses two days before.
Almost no budget. Most of the class is not earning. Any per-head figure above pocket money excludes people.
Thirty to sixty people, all at once. Not a friend group. A whole section.
A real deadline. Board exams, then results, then everyone disperses to different cities. Unlike college, there is no final semester to trail off in — school ends abruptly.
Parents are involved. Money, permission, and the logistics of anything organised.
The one thing worth knowing
The material disappears faster than anyone expects.
Right now every person in that class will send you photographs within a day. In six months half the numbers have changed, people have moved cities, and the group has gone quiet. In two years it is unrecoverable.
School photographs are also unusually scarce to begin with — phones are frequently not allowed, so what exists is a handful of trip pictures, annual day, and whatever a teacher took.
Collect now, decide later. That is the single most useful thing anyone in a leaving class can do, and it costs nothing.
What works at school scale
One book for the class, with a copy for whoever wants one.
The design is done once and each additional copy is another copy, which is what makes this affordable at thirty people. Whoever wants one pays for their own; nobody has to fund anyone else’s.
| Group | Pages | Ours | Roughly per copy |
|---|---|---|---|
| One section, 25 to 35 | 16 to 24 | ₹599 to ₹699 | The price of one copy |
| Plus contributions from everyone | 24 to 32 | ₹699 to ₹899 | Same |
About four photographs fill a page. Flat ₹70 delivery anywhere in India.
Ask for one specific memory each, not a message. A blank “write something” box from thirty sixteen-year-olds produces thirty versions of “friends forever”. A prompt asking what actually happened produces something worth keeping. How to run the collection covers the form and the deadline.
Individual small things. Loose prints for close friends — thirty photographs at ₹270 split between two people is genuinely affordable at this age, and it is the version that fits a school budget.
Money, carefully
This matters more at school than anywhere else on this site.
Set the figure at what the least comfortable person can pay without asking a parent. Then let anyone who wants to add more do it privately.
⚠️ Never circulate a list of who has paid. In a class, that list is read by everyone and it marks people permanently. How to split it fairly is worth reading before you announce a number, and the rule about covering someone silently applies especially here.
For the class teacher
Usually organised separately and usually as a shawl, a bouquet and a card. It works, and it is also the same institutional default everyone gives.
If you want to do better, the messages are the gift — what to give a teacher covers the retiring case, and most of it applies to a class teacher who is simply moving on.
What school farewells get wrong
Planning it during exams. The organising happens in the two weeks that matter most academically, and it is the most common reason it does not happen.
Waiting until after results. By then the group is already dispersing. Collect before the exams, assemble after.
A slideshow at the farewell. Watched once, in a hall, badly projected. The same material printed is kept.
Something for everyone that nobody wanted. Thirty identical keychains is a spend, not a gift.
Signing shirts and calling it done. Fine, and it does not survive a wash and a move.
When to keep it small
When the class is not close. Some sections are not, and a large sentimental object from a group that mostly tolerated each other is uncomfortable.
When money is genuinely a problem for people. Loose prints between friends is a complete answer and it costs a few hundred rupees.
When exams are in three weeks. Collect the photographs — that takes one message — and do the rest afterwards.
When one group is running it and excluding people. It happens, and it is worse at school than anywhere. Check the list against the actual roll.
Timing
5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR, flat ₹70 anywhere. Dispatch is weekly on Mondays, so a Friday order catches that week’s dispatch and a weekend order waits seven days. Add two to four days for design and your proof approval.
Realistically: collect before the exams, assemble during the results gap, order after. That sequence fits the school calendar and nothing else does.
Frequently asked
What should a class give at a school farewell? One book for the class with a copy for whoever wants one — the design is done once, so additional copies are affordable at thirty people.
How much should each person contribute? Whatever the least comfortable person can pay without asking a parent. Let others add privately, and never circulate a list of who paid.
When should we start? Now. Collect photographs before the exams — the class scatters immediately after results and the material is unrecoverable within a couple of years.
What should people write? One specific thing that happened, with an example so they know the register. A blank message box produces thirty identical sentences.
What is a good gift between two close friends? Thirty loose prints, split. It is the version that fits a school budget and it is genuinely the right size.
