We are a printing studio, not anyone’s counsellor, so this page is only about the gifting question. The etiquette matters more than the object, and most of it comes down to one thing.
Follow their lead on how public it is
Some people mark these openly — they post about it, they talk about it, the date is known. Others have told two people.
Whatever they have done, do that. A gift that makes a private milestone visible is not a generous mistake, it is an exposure, and it is the failure mode here.
| They have | So |
|---|---|
| Talked about it openly | An object is fine, and the date can be on it |
| Told a few people | Something private, with nothing written on it |
| Told only you | A message. Possibly nothing else |
| Not mentioned it | Not yours to mark |
What to give
Something about the year, not about what the year was.
Thirty prints at ₹270 of the twelve months — the things that happened, the people, the places. A year of a life rather than a year of an achievement.
An 8 or 16 page magazine, ₹499 to ₹599. Same principle, more room.
Nothing with a number on it. No “365”, no “one year”, no date. Those turn a private object into a public one the moment anybody else picks it up, and this is the specific reason to avoid them.
Flat ₹70 delivery anywhere in India.
What is often better than an object
Time. A day out, a trip, a standing arrangement. Overwhelmingly what people describe as mattering.
Saying it plainly, once. That you noticed, that it was hard, that you are glad. Written down rather than said, because it can be reread.
Nothing, and continuing to turn up. For a lot of people the meaningful thing is the friend who kept calling, and no object substitutes for that.
What to avoid
⚠️ Anything involving alcohol, obviously — including the absence of it as a joke. No alcohol-free spirits presented as a punchline, no “look what you’re missing”.
Anything that frames it as a transformation. A gift that treats the person as a before-and-after is uncomfortable to receive, however warmly it is meant.
Anything that assumes it is finished. A milestone is a point, not a conclusion.
If you are marking your own
The same object logic applies, and one addition: a record of the year is genuinely useful to have, because a year that felt like nothing was happening usually turns out, printed, to have had a great deal in it.
Thirty prints or a short magazine, kept privately. That is a normal thing to make for yourself and it does not need a reason.
Timing
5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR, dispatched every Monday. Order against the date if there is one, or against no date at all — which is often better here.
Frequently asked
What do you give for a sobriety milestone? Something about the year that has passed rather than about the milestone itself, and given as privately as they have kept it.
Should the gift say how long it has been? Only if they have made that public. A number on an object makes a private thing visible to anyone who picks it up.
Is an object the right response at all? Often time is better — a day out, a standing arrangement, or simply saying once that you noticed.
What should I definitely avoid? Anything involving alcohol, including as a joke, and anything that frames the person as a before-and-after.
What if they have not mentioned it to me? Then it is not mine to mark. A gift is not the place to reveal that you know something.
