₹10 per sheet, a sheet being two pages. So ₹100 on a 20-page album, ₹500 on a 100-page one, on top of the album price.
It is a genuine choice rather than an upsell, and there are cases where the honest answer is no.
What it does
A thin protective film bonded to the printed sheet. Three effects, and the third is the one people do not anticipate.
Resists fingerprints and marks. The main reason people choose it.
Resists moisture. Relevant in Indian humidity, particularly coastal and monsoon conditions.
Changes the feel. A laminated page is slicker and slightly stiffer. It reads as more manufactured and less like paper — which some people prefer and some actively dislike.
When it earns its money
| Situation | Worth it? |
|---|---|
| A wedding album handled by many people | Yes |
| Children will look at it | Yes |
| Coastal or high-humidity home | Yes |
| It will travel or be passed around | Yes |
| A quiet album on a shelf, opened yearly | Rarely |
| You chose the album for the paper feel | No |
The deciding question is handling, not storage. An album that sits closed on a shelf is already well protected by being closed. One that gets passed around a family gathering is not. How long printed photos last →
The argument against
Our album leaves are 250 GSM matte, chosen because matte is legible from any angle and does not throw glare under a ceiling light.
Lamination adds a surface to that. A matte laminate keeps most of the character; anything glossier undoes the reason the paper was chosen. If the tactile quality of the paper is part of why you wanted an album, adding film to it is working against yourself.
What it is not
⚠️ It is not archival protection. It resists handling marks and moisture; it does not stop fading, which is caused by light. An unlaminated album in a drawer will outlast a laminated one on a sunny windowsill.
⚠️ It cannot be added later, and it cannot be removed. It is applied at printing, so it is decided when you order rather than when the album arrives.
The arithmetic
On a 20-page album, ₹100 on ₹1,299 is about 8% for meaningful protection on a book that will be handled. Straightforward.
On a 100-page album, ₹500 on ₹2,199 is 23%, and at that size the same money is most of a second small magazine. Worth pausing on.
Frequently asked
How much does album lamination cost? ₹10 per sheet, which is two pages. ₹100 on a 20-page album and ₹500 on a 100-page one.
Should I laminate a wedding album? Usually yes. Wedding albums get passed around by many hands, which is exactly what lamination protects against.
Does lamination stop fading? No. Fading is caused by light. Lamination resists handling marks and moisture.
Can I add it after the album is made? No. It is applied at printing, so it has to be chosen when you order.
Does it change how the pages feel? Yes — slicker and slightly stiffer. If you chose the album partly for the matte paper, that is a real trade-off.
