A work anniversary is the one corporate gifting occasion where personalisation genuinely works, because unlike onboarding or Diwali there is real material behind it: a year of projects, colleagues, launches and things that went wrong. The archive exists. Almost nobody uses it.
Scale it to the tenure
| Years | What there is to draw on | What to give | Roughly |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | One year, one team | A record of the year | ₹499–599 |
| 3 | Several projects, some turnover | The projects, in order | ₹599–699 |
| 5 | A period with a shape | 16–24 pages, or a print set | ₹599–699 |
| 10 | An era, and several teams | 32–40 pages | ₹899–1,099 |
| 15+ | An archive | An album | ₹1,299–2,299 |
Flat ₹70 delivery per address. About four photographs fill a page.
The mistake is treating them all the same. A plaque at one year and a plaque at fifteen are the same object, which tells a fifteen-year employee that the company did not notice the difference.
What the plaque gets wrong
Not that it is cheap — a good one is not.
It is that a plaque records the number, not the tenure. “Five years of service” says nothing about what those five years contained, and the person who lived them can tell.
It also only works in one place. A plaque goes on a desk in the building; a book goes home, where the family sees what the person has actually been doing all this time. For a long-tenure employee that second audience matters more than people expect.
What to actually put in one
The projects, named. Not achievements in HR language — the actual things. The launch that slipped twice, the client nobody wanted, the quarter that went unexpectedly well.
The people. Especially the ones who have left. A five-year record that includes the team from year one is doing something no plaque can.
One line from each of several colleagues. Ask for a specific memory, not “write something nice” — the second produces fifteen variations of “great to work with you”.
Photographs from the offsites and the ordinary days. The ordinary ones age better.
Where the material actually is
This is the part that takes the time, and it is not with HR.
The team’s shared drive has the offsite photographs. Slack or Teams has the launch threads and the moments nobody saved elsewhere. Their manager remembers the projects. Colleagues who have left hold the early years and are usually pleased to be asked.
Allow two weeks. The printing is 5 to 14 days; the gathering is longer and nobody schedules it.
Running it as a programme, not a one-off
Most companies do work anniversaries reactively, which is why they end up as a plaque ordered on the day.
The version that works: a standing calendar, a set format per tenure band, and a collection request that goes out automatically a month before. Once the format is decided, each one is a fill-in rather than a fresh project — and the varied content per person is what stops it feeling like a batch.

When to do something else
At one year, for someone who joined a quiet team. There may genuinely not be much. A good note and something useful is honest.
When the person is visibly on their way out. A five-year record handed to someone already interviewing elsewhere is an awkward object for both sides.
When the culture is not that. Some workplaces would find a book of colleagues’ memories excruciating. Read the room; a plaque is not always the wrong answer.
When it is tomorrow. Made-to-order takes 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR, plus gathering.
Frequently asked
What is a good work anniversary gift for an employee? Something made from the tenure itself — the projects, the people, one line each from colleagues. A work anniversary is the corporate occasion with the most material behind it.
What is wrong with a plaque? It records the number rather than the tenure, and it looks the same at one year and at fifteen. It also only works on a desk in the building.
How should gifts differ by years of service? By format. One year is a short book; five is a longer one; fifteen is an album. Same programme, scaled to what there is to draw on.
How long does it take to put together? About two weeks to gather from shared drives, chat threads and colleagues, then 5 to 14 days from order to doorstep.
How do we run this for a whole company? Set a standing calendar, one format per tenure band, and an automatic collection request a month ahead. Then each one is a fill-in rather than a project.
