This is the one thing on our site that is not really a gift. It is décor, and at a milestone birthday it outperforms every other kind — because a wall of photographs is the only decoration guests stand in front of and talk to each other about.

Thirty prints is ₹270, which is less than most people spend on balloons, and it is the part of the room that gets photographed by guests.
Six practical decisions
1. Thirty is the right number for most rooms. Enough to fill a wall; few enough that people read all of them. Sixty starts to be wallpaper.
2. Weight it to the old ones. The recent photographs are on everybody’s phone already. The 1994 ones are what people crowd around.
3. Include the guests, not just the birthday person. A guest who finds themselves on the wall stays at it for five minutes and shows three people.
4. Laminate if children are coming. ₹3 a print, and children touch a photo wall at exactly the height they can reach.
5. Hang low. Photo walls are almost always hung at adult eye level, and half the room at a family party is under five feet.
6. String, not tape. Twine and small clips means guests can take one down to look at it, which is the whole point, and nothing is damaged.
What to do with them afterwards
The failure of a party photo wall is that it goes into a bag on the night and is not seen again.
Two better endings, decided in advance:
Let guests take one. Say so out loud during the evening. Thirty people leave with a photograph, which is a party favour that costs ₹9 each.
Give the set to the birthday person, in an envelope. Simple, and it turns the décor into the gift after the fact.
