A print pack has no design stage and no proof — that is why it costs ₹9 a print rather than ₹499 for eight pages. The trade is that nothing here is caught for you.
Six failures, in order of how often they happen.
1. Dark photographs printing darker
The commonest by a wide margin. A screen is backlit; paper is not. A moody photograph that looks rich on a phone can arrive close to black.
Fix: brighten anything dark before sending. Look at it at full brightness, then imagine it with the backlight off — that is roughly the print.
2. WhatsApp compression
Second commonest, and invisible until it arrives. A photograph forwarded through a group chat has been re-compressed, sometimes more than once, and at print size that shows as softness and blocky edges.

3. The crop taking somebody out
Every photograph is cropped to the size you chose. A square takes from top and bottom of a portrait; 2x3 takes from the sides of a landscape.

4. Too far away
A wide shot of a mountain, or eleven people in a row, printed at three inches. Nobody is recognisable and the mountain is a fingernail.

5. Thirty photographs of one weekend
What choosing in a single sitting always produces. It looks fine in a folder and monotonous on a wall.
Fix: two passes on different days, and vary the distance — faces, places, objects.
6. Laminating a pack you wanted to write on
Small, avoidable, and irreversible. ₹3 a print buys a surface that will not take a pen.

Which is the honest part
Every row in that table says nobody, and that is the difference between this and everything else we make.

The one that is not your fault
Colour, within a range.
A print will not match your screen exactly, and no print from anybody will. A phone screen is backlit, wider in colour range than ink on paper, and calibrated to look good rather than to be accurate. Paper is reflective and has a fixed gamut.
The practical effect: deep blues and bright saturated colours print slightly duller, and anything relying on a screen’s glow loses it.
That is a property of printing rather than a fault, and it is worth knowing so it is not a surprise. What you can control is the six things above; this one you cannot, and it is usually a much smaller difference than any of them.

Why did my photo prints look bad? Usually one of three things: the photograph was dark, the file had been through WhatsApp, or the subject was too far away for a three-inch print.
