There are three gifts at an Indian wedding and most people only think about two of them.
The envelope satisfies the family convention. The household gift equips the marriage. Both are addressed to the couple, both are expected, and both are being given by two hundred other people.
The third one is addressed to your friend, and it is the only one you are uniquely placed to give.
Give the third one, and not on the day
The wedding day is the worst possible moment for anything personal. She is managing four hundred people, running four hours behind, and physically cannot give attention to an object.
Two better slots:
The week before, quietly, away from the preparations. Or a month after, when the relatives have gone, the house is quiet, and the strangeness of the change actually arrives.
The month-after slot is almost entirely unused, and it is the best one. Nobody sends a married friend anything in week five.
What the friendship gift is about
Not the marriage. The years before it.
She is about to have a professionally shot wedding album within months. What she will not have, and what nobody else is making, is a record of the decade you two spent getting to this — the flats, the jobs, the terrible year, the holidays, the people who came and went.
| Format | Holds | Ours |
|---|---|---|
| Print pack | 30 loose photographs | ₹270 |
| Photo magazine | 32 to 160 images, in order, with words | ₹499 to ₹1,099 |

About four photographs fill a page, so ten years of friendship is usually 16 to 24 pages. Flat ₹70 delivery anywhere in India.
⚠️ Do not make it a farewell. The most common misfire here is a book with a tone of loss in it — the friendship as a completed thing, now ending because she is married. She will notice that instantly and it is not a nice thing to hand someone at a wedding.
Make it a record of what happened, not a eulogy for what is over.
If a group of you are giving it
This is one of the best occasions for a pooled gift, because a friend group holds material no single person does — different years, different cities, different parts of her life.
How to run that without it collapsing is the practical guide. The short version: one person owns it, ask for exactly three photographs and one specific incident each, deadline two weeks before you need it.
The practical gifts nobody gives
Weddings generate ceremony and very little help. As a close friend you are positioned for things family cannot do:
- Being the person who handles her phone on the day
- The room booked for the night after so she sleeps
- Taking one whole category of arrangements off her
- Being the one who says no to people on her behalf
- Food. Brides famously do not eat at their own weddings
Being the designated bad guy is a real gift. Someone has to tell the photographer no and manage the relative who needs managing, and it should not be her.
What to avoid
Household items. She is receiving many, and it is now a shared home with someone else’s taste.
Anything about the two of you that excludes the partner, given publicly. In private, completely fine. In front of a new family, it reads a particular way.
A speech or video played to the room, unless she has asked. Even then, err smaller.
Something that requires her to be sentimental on a schedule. She has four hundred people to get through.
When to keep it simple
When you are also spending heavily on the wedding. Travel, outfits, functions — being at an Indian wedding as a close friend is expensive. The envelope and something small is entirely enough.
When the family convention is cash. Give the envelope and something private. Both, at different times.
When the marriage is contested among her people. A large gesture can be read as a position.
When you have three weeks. A decade of archive is four to six. Give the envelope now and the book at the one-month mark, which is the better slot anyway.
Timing
5 to 14 days from order to doorstep, 5 to 12 to Delhi NCR, flat ₹70 anywhere. Dispatch is weekly on Mondays, so a Friday order catches that week’s dispatch and a weekend order waits seven days. Add two to four days for design and your proof approval.
Start six weeks out, or deliberately target a month after the wedding — which removes the deadline entirely and lands better.
Frequently asked
What should a best friend give at a wedding? Something addressed to her rather than to the couple. The envelope and the household gift are already being given by everyone else.
When should I give it? Not on the day. The week before in private, or a month after, when the relatives have gone and nobody else is sending her anything.
Should the gift include wedding photographs? No. She will have a professional album within months. The years before it are what nobody else is documenting.
What is the most common mistake? Making it read like a farewell. A book with loss in its tone, handed over at a wedding, is not a nice thing to receive.
