If you are buying a gift at retail, GST is already included in the price you pay, exactly as it is on anything else. There is no separate gift tax, and nothing extra is charged because the item is a present. The complications only start with corporate gifting and input tax credit — and that is genuinely an accountant’s question, not a gifting company’s.
Buying a gift as an individual
Three things, and then you are done.
The price includes GST. Indian retail prices are quoted inclusive. The figure on the product page is the figure you pay, plus delivery.
There is no gift tax on the purchase. Buying something and giving it away is not a taxable event for you. Whether a received gift is taxable income for the recipient is a separate question under income tax law, with exemptions for close relatives and for occasions like marriage — and it is about income tax, not GST.
Delivery may be taxed at the same rate. Where delivery is charged as part of a composite supply, it generally follows the rate of the main item. Ours is a flat ₹70, inclusive, to every pin code in India.
What we do and do not print on your invoice
| You get | Always |
|---|---|
| An itemised invoice | Yes, emailed with the order |
| The price you were quoted | Yes — inclusive, no additions at checkout |
| A GST invoice with your GSTIN | On request, before the order is placed |
If you need the GSTIN on the invoice — which is the only way it is useful for input tax credit — tell us before you pay. Re-issuing an invoice with a GSTIN added after the fact is not something any seller should do casually, and we would rather set it up correctly at the start.
Corporate and bulk gifting
This is where it stops being simple, and where we stop being the right source.
The questions that arise — whether input tax credit can be claimed on goods given as gifts, how employee gifting is treated, what happens above certain per-employee value thresholds, how branded gifting is classified — all have real answers in the GST Act and its rules. Those answers depend on your business, your registration, and how the gifting is recorded.
We deliberately do not publish rates or thresholds here. They move with the Finance Act, and a page that quotes a number confidently becomes wrong the moment it changes while still ranking. A gifting company telling you your ITC position is a gifting company guessing.
What we can do is invoice correctly. Tell us your GSTIN and what the gifting is for, and we will issue an invoice your finance team can work with.
The one thing worth getting right
Give your GSTIN before you pay, not after. It is the single most common avoidable problem in corporate gift orders, and it is entirely fixable by mentioning it up front.
Everything else — the classification, the credit, the treatment — is a conversation with your accountant, who knows your books. We know paper.
Frequently asked
Do I pay GST on a gift in India? On a retail purchase, GST is included in the price you pay. There is no additional gift tax and nothing extra is charged because the item is a present.
Is there a separate gift tax in India? Not under GST. Received gifts can be taxable as income for the recipient under income tax law, with broad exemptions for close relatives and for occasions such as marriage — a different tax and a different question.
Can my company claim input tax credit on gifts? Sometimes, and it depends on the nature of the gifting, your registration and how it is recorded. This is a question for your accountant. We will not guess at it, and neither should any seller.
Can I get a GST invoice with my GSTIN? Yes — tell us before you place the order. Adding a GSTIN to an invoice after payment is not something we do.
Is delivery taxed separately? Our delivery is a flat ₹70 inclusive to every pin code, quoted as part of the order rather than added as a separate taxable line.
This page describes how we invoice. It is not tax advice, and nothing here should be relied on in place of your own accountant.
